Excellence in education and research is the guiding principle for the Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering at Rice University. We are dedicated to expanding the boundaries of our knowledge and producing the materials scientists and engineers of the future.
Rice University researchers have synthesized and isolated plasmonic magnesium nanoparticles that show all the promise of their gold, silver and aluminum cousins with none of the drawbacks. The research appears in the American Chemical Society journal Nano Letters.
“I like carbon,” says Emily M. Yedinak, a first-year graduate student in materials science and nanoengineering (MSNE) at Rice University. “In the form of graphene aerogels, it’s like magic. They’re so porous. We haven’t even figured out all the applications.”
