Yimo Han, assistant professor of materials science and nanoengineering (MSNE) and director of the Electron Microscopy Center at Rice, has been named to the 2022 MIT Technology Review Innovators Under 35 (TR35) China list.

Han was recognized for her efforts to “develop and utilize advanced electron microscopy technology to uncover the atomistic structure of new materials and elucidate how these structures can open opportunities in applications such as quantum computing, renewable energy.” Research in her Han Lab @ Rice focuses on such material systems as two-dimensional nanomaterials, biomaterials/molecules and interfaces.

Han earned a B.S. in mathematics and physics from Tsinghua University in 2012 and her M.S. and Ph.D. in applied physics from Cornell in 2015 and 2018, respectively. For two years she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Princeton, and in 2020 joined the Rice faculty.

Since 1999, MIT Technology Review has annually named young researchers to its “35 Innovators Under 35” list. Since 2017 it has published a list specifically for China, a collaboration between MIT Technology Review and its Chinese partners, TR China.
