Thirteen current or former Rice faculty appear on a list of most-cited researchers developed for ShanghaiRanking’s Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016.
The ranking of academic subjects lists universities in eight engineering subjects. Worldwide information and analytics provider Elsevier developed a list of most-cited researchers in those subjects as a way to measure institutions’ researchers with global influence. A few Rice faculty members appeared on two or three subject lists, which consisted of chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science and engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, energy science and engineering, environmental science and engineering, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering.
The list was compiled using the Elsevier Scopus database. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature. It is designed to serve the information needs of researchers, educators, students, administrators and librarians around the world.
The Rice researchers who made the list and the subject areas are, in alphabetical order:
Former Rice faculty members Vicki Colvin and the late Richard Smalley also are on the list for materials science and engineering.
